Jennifer Walker received the Margaret Green Microbiology Teaching Award from the Southeastern Branch of the American Society for Microbiology.

The Margaret Green Microbiology Teaching Award was established in 1986, presented annually to an individual who has rendered outstanding service in the teaching of microbiology, particularly at the undergraduate level, while at a Southeastern Branch institution. Walker was presented with the award by ASM SEB president Dr. Nikki Shariat at the 2025 ASM SEB meeting Oct 31-Nov 2, 2025.

Walker, Senior Lecturer in the department of microbiology, is a tireless advocate for science education within and outside the university. She has helped transform the Microbiology undergraduate program as a member of the Undergraduate Affairs committee since 2016 and as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator since 2019.

Dr. Walker is the backbone of our undergraduate program in numerous ways, working year-round to recruit students interested in Microbiology, developing events that highlight the field as well as the accomplishments of our senior students,"said Aaron Mitchell, professor and head of the department of microbiology. "She has taken on the leadership role of Undergraduate Coordinator with enthusiasm and imagination, constantly looking at how we can fill the gaps in our educational program, even as she serves as a textbook reviewer and chapter writer."
